SurveyMonkey audience research

I created a survey monkey that I put out to my target audience to find out what they would like to see in a music magazine.

The first question I asked was to find out the gender of my target audience. The results were that my target audience was mostly males but also included females as well. Because of this, I decided to try to make my magazine appeal to both genders.

The next question was to find out the age of my target audience. I found out that most of my target audience was in the area of 16-30, so that was the age group I decided to aim my magazine at.

I asked a question to see if my target audience were interested in music, because if they weren't then their opinion on a music magazine wouldn't be as important as someone who did like music. Everyone I asked liked music so I knew I needed to listen to their opinions.

I asked a question to see what music genres people were interested in. The most common answer was rock, so I decided to give my magazine the rock genre.

My next question was to ask if they read music magazines. I would take more interest in the opinion of someone who does read music magazines than someone who doesn't. Half of the responses to this question were yes and the other half said no.

I then asked which music magazines people do read. I asked this question because then I could use the most popular magazines as a style model for my magazine. The 3 most common answers were Q, NME and Kerrang, so I decided to use those magazines as style models.

The next question I asked was to see what colour scheme my target audience would want to see in a music magazine. The most common answer was black and white, so these were the colours I chose to use for my magazine.

I asked another question to see what things my target audience wanted to see in a music magazine. The things that people want to read about include news, festival coverage, upcoming gigs, top new bands, upcoming releases, best songs and interviews with musicians.

The final question I asked was to see which name my target audience would prefer for a music magazine. I gave them a choice of four options: Interval, The Sound, Bass and Download. The most common answer was Interval so that was the name I decided to use for my magazine.
